The Leaning Shanty Dream all started because once October 1st hits, I'm in the Holiday Spirit. As I've probably said before, I love Halloween and Thanksgiving, but they are really just build up to Christmas.
But for some reason I have really been lacking in Christmas Spirit this year...and that makes me really, really sad. But I couldn't for the life of me figure out just WHY I was feeling that way...or really NOT feeling that way. And then it hit me...No one seems to actually be celebrating Christmas. Towns are bare of holiday decor; I never hear "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"; TV is almost completely void of holiday shows or movies.
I've complained about this before, which prompted Drew to buy me a few holiday DVDs to add to my collection. So far, here's what I have:
A Christmas Story
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Frosty the Snowman
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
A Charlie Brown Christmas
The Santa Claus
Elf
A Muppet Christmas Carol
Disney Holiday Classics, Vol. 9
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (cartoon & movie)
Meet Me in St. Louis
And while I love these very, very much, I'm still missing a few classic cartoons that used to make my holidays feel special. So today, I decided to try and find a way to purchase them on DVD. No such luck. BUT! YouTube (God Bless You, YouTube!) did come through for me. And now I have a few more of those missing cartoons.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I always have...

If you're like me, I felt like Christmas was over when you all went back home - esp since we had the tree up, did presents, etc.
It has taken me some time to get back into the spirit, but it helped this weekend when I had company Friday night and we went to Aunt Margee's Saturday. So maybe the cure is to get together with some friends and have some holiday cheer!
I agree with your mom. You definitely need to have some holiday "cheer". I'll mix it up for you when I come over. :)
Other favorites to get you in the mood: "The Bishop's Wife," "White Christmas," "Family Man," all versions of "Miracle on 34th Street," and if a PBS station carries it "The Nutcracker." also, like your mom said, bring friends in as much as possible. Jim and I had a few Christmases away from family, and big doses of friends helped put "merry" into Christmas. Hope your sweet elf Drew keeps trying to bring your jolly level up.:-)
Love,
Aunt A
